Squint your eyes a little and it might look like a fever dream version of the Trine series, but Macrotis: A Mother’s Journey is even more laborious to play than its title is to read, and fails to deliver a similar sense of character, wit, or wonder....

Writer-director Kevin Smith announces that filming on the long-awaited Jay and Silent Bob Reboot has wrapped. Released in 2001, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back was the first cinematic entry centered on the exploits of Smith’s stoner duo, who were first introduced in the director’s debut feature Clerks. In the film, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Smith) traveled to Hollywood to prevent their Bluntman and Chronic comic book from being made into a movie, encountering many strange and hilarious adventures along the way....

The Hyundai/Kia Apple Car rumor was once presented as if it were almost a done deal, before later being dismissed – but a Korean report today says some kind of deal is not entirely off the table. It goes on to hint that a deal might be struck over the Kia electric scooter… Reuters reports: The overall tone appears to be that while Hyundai/Kia may not make an electric car for Apple, the two companies are in discussion about “eight sectors,” so some kind of deal remains a possibility....

That means its 100/20Mbps plan will become 300/100Mbps, while the Business Evolve 100/100Mbps plan will become 300/300Mbps, and Small Business Fibre 100/100Mbps will be 500Mbps symmetric. “The fibre build propelled New Zealand’s broadband infrastructure well ahead of that in Australia, the UK and many other countries. However, some countries, where fibre is ubiquitous are starting to pull ahead,” the company said. The upshift could impact up to 600,000 premises, Chorus said....

Department store Kohl’s is the latest retailer to begin carrying the Apple Watch just in time for the holiday shopping season. Fortune reports that Kohl’s will offer the Apple Watch at 400 of its retail locations starting November 15. That’s just a fraction of its 1,100 locations across the country, but the report notes that it tops rival Macy’s effort. We learned back in September that Macy’s is selling the Apple Watch at 180 of its stores with mini Apple boutiques for its shoppers....

A new report today claims that Apple is reluctant to ban suppliers found guilty of labor violations, and can take years to do so, even in the most serious of cases. In one case, it says, Apple took three years to stop using a Chinese supplier that was repeatedly found to use child labor… The Information carries the report: Apple claims to have zero tolerance for such abuses, but multiple sources accuse Apple of dragging its feet when it has no alternative supplier ready to plug a gap....

Tests include buying a new iPhone, turning everything that would use data off and letting it sit for two weeks. They contend that 35 different data charges occurred during that time. AT&T contends that the iPhone uses data without the customer knowing. Recently, Apple’s collection of anonymous location data, and subsequent exchange of tower signal strength knowledge was brought into the spotlight....

While Samsung appears set to be the sole supplier of OLED displays for the iPhone 8, LG is reportedly hoping to get in on the action from next year … Korea’s ET News cites display industry sources in reporting that LG is making major investments in its production capacity, and is switching focus from TV to smartphone displays in the hope of securing orders from Apple. If that sounds like a big bet on business it may not win, it does have a Plan B....

Rapper Mac Miller’s family revealed that they will be releasing a posthumous album of the musicians’ unfinished music. The album, titled Circles will be released one year after his untimely death. Miller was found dead at the age of 26 in his home in San Fernando Valley on September 7th, 2019. His death occurred just one month after the release of his acclaimed fifth studio album, Swimming. The cause of death was later determined to be due to mixed drug toxicity....

Update: Apple is pushing a new security update to remove these webservers too. The Mac webcam hijack flaw discovered in the Zoom video conference app is also present in RingCentral and Zhumu. The evidence also suggests that the same vulnerability will exist in other Mac video conferencing apps … Apple pushed a silent security update to macOS to remove the local webserver installed by Zoom, but it does not remove those installed by RingCentral and Zhumu....

In October 2020, Ken Kocienda, longtime Apple human interface designer and the inventor of the iPhone’s virtual keyboard, launched his first standalone app. The game “Up Spell” is highly addictive yet incredibly simple. John Gruber described it best at the time as a “fast-paced solo version of Scrabble.” Recently, YouTuber DankPods shared a look at a variety of old iPod Touch prototypes from the late 2000s and early 2010s. In the video, DankPods looks at a bunch of internal Apple apps, and one of them happens to play like Kocienda’s game, almost to a T....

Apple Pay was slow to gain adoption among the big banks in Australia, but now the final of the “big four banks” has announced support for Apple’s platform. Westpac, the second largest bank in Australia, says that it will soon start rolling out Apple Pay support to customers. In an announcement today, Westpac said that Apple Pay is now available at its St George, BankSA and Bank of Melbourne brands for customers with an eligible Visa debit or credit card....
