Apple Watch is being credited with helping another user detect atrial fibrillation. Today, local news outlet WHAS11 tells the story of Rosemary Stiles, who asked for an Apple Watch for Christmas in 2018 and now says the device accurately detected the heart condition while she was asleep. Rosemary says that she was feeling tired and run down on a daily basis, and would often fall asleep shortly after sitting down. At the time, she had no ideas those were key symptoms of AFib....

A large-scale study involving more than 14,000 Apple Watch and Android Wear users has shown that heart-rate data from the wearables can detect early signs of diabetes. The study – a collaboration between UC San Francisco and digital health startup Cardiogram – measured the accuracy of a new diabetes detection algorithm on a cohort which included 463 participants with previously-diagnosed diabetes. Cardiogram co-founder Johnson Hsieh explained how the condition can be diagnosed using nothing more than heart-rate data....

Research firm IDC is today out with its latest data concerning the wearable market. IDC’s data, which reflects the second quarter of 2016, shows an overall increase in the wearables market but smart wearables, described as those that support third-party apps, saw a significant decline. IDC says that shipments of wearable devices reached 22.5 million in the second quarter of 2016, for an overall increase of 26.1 percent year-over-year, which the research firm attributes to new emerging use cases for the devices....

Renowned leaker l0vetodream said today that the upcoming iMac redesign will feature an even larger display than the current iMac lineup. Apple currently sells iMacs in two sizes; a 21.5-inch model and a 27-inch model. The leaker suggests that the new iMac will feature a display that is Apple’s biggest yet, thereby exceeding 27 inches. Perhaps Apple is looking to match the Apple Pro Display XDR and create a 32-inch all-in-one machine?...

Live by Night is a dense and disorganized movie adaptation in which Ben Affleck covers too much ground for any one story or character to succeed. A desire to see live images and video from protests about the killing of George Floyd have led to record downloads of the Twitter app. This boosted already high downloads from those wanting to follow coronavirus news. Two different sources, Apptopia and Sensor Tower, both agree that this was Twitter’s biggest-ever week for downloads… TechCrunch says that the protests drove demand in two ways. The site notes that the two firms agree it was a record week globally, but came up with different numbers....

Logitech has now officially announced the Logitech Crayon stylus, with Apple Pencil technology for palm rejection, sub-pixel accuracy and tilt support. It doesn’t seem to support pressure-sensitivity but it is dramatically cheaper. Apple Pencil retails for $99, while the Crayon will cost $49 when it launches this summer into education sales channels. Whilst the palm rejection, accuracy and tilt features appear to be the same as the Apple Pencil, the design of the Crayon diverges in some key ways....

Disney’s Love, Simon sequel TV show has gotten an official title (Love, Victor), but will air on Hulu rather than Disney+. Adapted from the novel by Becky Albertalli, 2018’s Love, Simon was one of the last projects released under the now-defunct Fox 2000 label (which was closed down following Disney’s purchase of Fox’s film and TV assets). Directed by Greg Berlanti, the movie starred Nick Robinson as Simon Spier, a closeted gay high school boy who falls in love with an anonymous gay classmate he meets online....

Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss sign on to develop an adaptation of the graphic novel Lovecraft. Benioff and Weiss of course are still receiving criticism for the final season of Thrones, which many fans thought fell far short of expectations. The showrunners however have received plenty of support from GoT cast members and famous fans as they deal with the backlash over their handling of the series’ tricky final episodes....

In his latest video, Jon Prosser claims that the upcoming M1X-powered Mac mini will also introduce a new generation of industrial design for Apple’s standalone Mac. This model is expected to replace the higher-end space grey Intel Mac mini in the lineup, with the M1 Mac mini sticking around as the entry-level machine. According to Prosser, the 2021 Mac mini will feature a new external chassis with a “plexiglass-like” reflective surface on the top, in an otherwise aluminium enclosure …...

This week marked the launch of the final pillar of Apple’s big operating system refresh for 2019. Of course, I’m referring to macOS 10.15 Catalina, the sequel to last year’s release to macOS Mojave. This means that, for the first time on macOS, developers can easily port their iPad apps back to the Mac....

It’s been a pain-point for some Mac users for a while now: the inability to rearrange third-party menu bar extras. Sure, it’s been possible to move around stock menu bar extras by simply holding the Command key while dragging the icon, but third-party icons are no longer off limits. Indeed, the macOS Sierra beta makes it possible for Mac users to rearrange third-party menu bar (NSStatusItems) extras, and that’s kind of a big deal....

Season 18 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians’ release date has been revealed. The famous Calabasas-based reality family is returning to E! on March 26 with a slew of new episodes and lots of drama and laughter to boot. Viewers might remember that Kourtney Kardashian hinted she would be leaving the show after fighting with Kim and Kourtney about her level of participation in season 17. It seems that the younger sisters took their big sis to task for not sharing enough about her life on the show....

KGI Securities has issued a new report on iPhone 8 and Apple Watch Series 3 pre-order sales after the initial launch weekend. Both new products hit stores this Friday with pre-orders starting three days ago. KGI believes the iPhone X may be impacting iPhone 8 sales while the Apple Watch Series 3 is seeing stronger-than-expected demand. In today’s report, KGI notes that newly launched iPhones typically ship 3-6 weeks after being ordered while most iPhone 8 models are shipping in 1-2 weeks or less....
