A claimed leaked image of the upcoming iPad Pro is getting some coverage this morning – but it isn’t what it appears … The image was tweeted by Evan Blass, who goes by the @evleaks handle on twitter. Although it appears to be an image we haven’t seen before, everything but the on-screen content is identical to a render created by MySmartPrice almost two months ago. It’s clear that Evan Blass, or one of his sources, has simply taken the original render (left) and Photoshopped in a new screen (right)....

We’ve seen a lot more of the Apple Park campus thanks to the iPhone 8 launch in the Steve Jobs Theater, so the latest drone footage from Matthew Roberts doesn’t show us much we haven’t seen before, but it’s enjoyable eye-candy anyway. It includes dropping down inside the ring at sunset, and a peek down inside the building through some glass panels in the roof … The panels appear to be above an atrium area, and are likely designed to bring additional light into the centre of the building, so don’t really show us anything of the interior....

However, CodeWeavers announced that CrossOver 20 now works on Apple Silicon Macs, which means that the new M1 Macs can run Windows software right on macOS. If you’re unfamiliar with CrossOver, it’s a platform based on the open-source Wine project that can run the Windows environment on macOS and Linux....

As with the FAA rule, affected models are banned from both cabin and hold baggage unless verified as having had the battery replaced. A new safety precaution has seen all MacBooks banned from checked baggage on Virgin Australia flights due to fears over battery fires. They are still permitted in cabin baggage. We reported a couple of months ago a proof-of-concept allowing a modified phone charger to inject malware into a non-jailbroken iPhone without user intervention. While there is no evidence that the method has ever been used in the wild, Reuters reports that iOS 7 beta 4 contains a fix for the vulnerability … The hack worked by embedding a tiny Linux computer into a charger. In the latest beta, a message pops up to warn users that they are connecting to a computer rather than a charger....

Although there has been a lot of noise about new AirPods recently, it doesn’t seem like they are actually due for an update anytime soon. A proven leaker has corroborated a recent Kuo report that said AirPods 3 were not scheduled to enter mass production until later in the year… Yesterday, respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that third-generation AirPods were in development but the supply chain was not preparing to mass produce them until Q3 2021, which means they won’t be launching in the next couple of weeks....
