She made a real impression as Maria Rambeau in Captain Marvel, but where else might you have seen actress Lashana Lynch? Captain Marvel finally introduced Carol Danvers to the MCU, revealing the character’s backstory and how she fits in with the Avengers. While the movie provided all the action and twists fans have come to expect from the franchise its the relationships that made it work, especially Carol’s friendships with both Nick Fury and Maria Rambeau.
Maria was Carol’s best friend and fellow pilot in the United States Air Force, prior to the crash that gave Danver’s her powers. In addition to filling in the blanks of Carol’s past on Earth, both Maria and her young daughter Monica give her an emotional anchor to her home planet.
