Former NBA player, Lamar Odom was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars. The athlete told fans about his future aspirations now that he’s no longer dancing, saying he wants to “change some lives” and focus on his children.
The 39-year-old former Los Angeles Lakers player was previously linked to Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ Khloé Kardashian. The two were married for seven years. From his previous relationship with Liza Morales, he has two children - Destiny, 21, and Lamar Jr., 17, - who have been cheering him on from the Dancing with the Stars audience. He danced with partner Peta Murgatroyd and they earned a score of 20 out of 40 for their Viennese Waltz. He was in the bottom two with Queer Eye’s Karamo Brown. Unfortunately, it was Lamar that was sent home.
After being eliminated, he spoke to Us Weekly about what he plans for the future. First off, he told them, “[I’d like to] go celebrate my book, a New York Times bestseller [Darkness to Light: A Memoir].” His Best Selling memoir where Lamar speaks candidly about his drug addiction and recovery. Following the Dancing with the Stars week four taping, he said he’d like to take the time off of working and being finished with Dancing with Stars, he’d like to “Focus on my children. Maybe [take] a vacation.”
The former professional basketball player also explained that he will “probably not” return to the NBA. He said he’d like to take his career in a new and more meaningful direction. He said, “I have some free time on my hands, so maybe I can focus on my public speaking.” Lamar explained that he’d like to “change some lives with my story.” As fans know, back in 2013, Lamar’s drug addiction nearly killed him when he had a drug overdose in a brothel in Nevada.
It seems that since he’s faced his fears dancing in front of America for Dancing with the Stars, his next goal will be to face public speaking and share his story. Lamar has been able to not only survive but effectively move on from his near-fatal overdose back in 2013 and he plans to educate and inspire other people on the topic. But before he does that, he’s taking a well-deserved vacation with his kids.
