Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has offered the most concrete details on the iPhone 13 lineup yet, including the tidbit that the 5.4-inch form factor is here to stay for at least another year. This comes as various reports have suggested that demand for the iPhone 12 mini has been weaker than Apple expected.
The iPhone 12 is available in four different sizes:
- 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini
- 6.1-inch iPhone 12
- 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro
- 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max
Kuo writes that the 2021 iPhone devices will be available in the same four sizes as the iPhone 12 lineup.
Since November, a variety of reports have suggested that the iPhone 12 mini is not selling as well as the rest of the iPhone 12 lineup. Most recently, data from Counterpoint Research claimed that the iPhone 12 mini accounted for just 5% of total iPhone 12 sales during the first half of January in the US.
The new 2H21 iPhones will be the same as iPhone 12 series, with four models and the same screen sizes. All new 2H21 iPhones support the Lightning connector and no portless design.
Despite iPhone 12 mini sales potentially being weaker than expected, analysts have said that sales of the iPhone 12 lineup as a whole are higher than expected, driven primarily by stronger demand for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Of course, Apple no longer reports unit sales for any of its products, let alone specific breakdowns for different variants within overall product categories. As such, we’ll likely never actually know how many iPhone 12 mini units Apple has sold in comparison to the rest of the iPhone 12 lineup.
