The Honest Trailer for Knives Out is here. Writer-director Rian Johnson’s followup to The Last Jedi have proven to be a huge success, grossing over $300 million at the box office and taking home an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay since its release last November. With those kinds of returns (not to mention, stellar reviews), it’s little surprise Lionsgate has gone ahead and green-lit Knives Out 2, with Johnson once again at the helm. Daniel Craig is also expected to return for the sequel, which will follow his detective character, Benoit Blanc, as he investigates an entirely different murder mystery.

With Knives Out arriving on on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K a week from today on Tuesday, February 25 (it’s already available On Digital), Screen Junkies has gone ahead and released its official Honest Trailer for the movie online. In addition to poking fun at the whodunnit (which, as the trailer points out, is really more of a “HowDunTheyGetAwayWithIt”), the video notes the film and Johnson’s The Last Jedi are, in many ways, about the exact same thing. For more on that, watch the trailer for yourselves, below.

Much like Johnson’s previous films, Knives Out is all about subverting expectations in ways that are both funny and get audiences thinking. As the Honest Trailer illustrates, the movie deals with themes about entitlement and class warfare that are similar to those examined in The Last Jedi; yet, because it does so through the lens of a “silly, fun, not really a mystery”, it’s able to work as both crowd-pleasing entertainment and clever social commentary. For that reason, some people would understandably prefer for Johnson to continue focusing his time and attention on the Knives Out franchise and other original projects, rather than returning to Star Wars for the trilogy he’s (very) loosely attached to helm. Either way, it great to know the filmmaker is already hard at work plotting Mr. Blanc’s next misadventure.

In Knives Out, the circumstances surrounding the death of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey are mysterious, but there’s one thing that renowned Detective Benoit Blanc knows for sure - everyone in the wildly dysfunctional Thrombey family is a suspect. Now, Blanc must sift through a web of lies and red herrings to uncover the truth. From acclaimed writer-director Rian Johnson comes this suspenseful, twist-filled whodunnit with an all-star ensemble cast including Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Michael Shannon, Jaeden Martell, and more.
