Ever since his debut film, Clerks, was released back in the mid 1990s, Kevin Smith has been praised as some kind of pop culture icon in the comic book fandom world. Unabashedly enthusiastic about the things he loves and the characters he loves, Smith hasn’t been afraid to share his opinion about all things within those worlds throughout the years; whether it be what he thinks of the latest film from Marvel Studios, or the newest superhero TV series to make its debut on Netflix, ABC, and so on.

Recently, Smith’s enthusiasm towards the DC TV shows has been paying off in spades for the writer and director also. After being initially hired to direct just one episode in The Flash’s second season, Smith has gone on to helm more episodes of both The Flash and The CW’s Supergirl. Predictably (and understandably), Smith hasn’t wasted any time talking about where he’d like to go next in the Arrowverse.

In fact, while speaking with Comic Book about the various DC TV shows of The CW, Smith talked about his desire to be a part of the next major DC TV crossover event. Apparently, he’s already put in a request with the Arrowverse creative teams too:

This all comes just a few days before the first Smith-directed episode of Supergirl, titled “Supergirl Lives”, premieres. Smith also spoke to Comic Book about how excited he was about last year’s Arrowverse crossover event in particular, wherein the characters of The Flash, Supergirl, Arrow, and Legends of Tomorrow teamed up to take on a villainous alien race known as The Dominators. While there’s no telling yet whether or not Smith will get to direct one of the installments in the next major DC TV crossover, it doesn’t look like his involvement in the future of Arrowverse will be slowing down anytime soon either.

“I put in my request to [executive producer Andrew] Kreisberg already, dude. After I watched their crossover, I said, ‘Please, dude, please, next year, just give me a taste of that crossover. I just want to be involved in one of them. I don’t care which one.’ They look like a nightmare to shoot, I’ll be honest with you. I did the ‘Killer Frost’ episode [of The Flash] right before they went into the crossovers, and the crossover schedule, you’re talking about four different shows where you’re swapping performers and characters and stuff like that. It’s a nightmare on all the AD’s, as they have to try to figure out how to make this all work. That being said, look at the end results, dude. That was absolutely thrilling to watch all four of those shows cross over….I’m asking, I’m asking. I don’t know if they’ll let me but believe me, I’ve already put in the request. I said, ‘Whatever it is next season, whatever the crossover is, even if it was The Death of Kevin Smith, I want to be involved somehow.’”

Before “Supergirl Lives” makes its premiere even, Smith has already been tapped to direct yet another episode Supergirl later on this season, and it likely won’t be very long before he’s announced to be directing another episode of one of the other CW series either. After directing episodes of both The Flash and Supergirl too, it only seems fair to wonder when he’ll get to dip his toes in Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow. He hasn’t been shy about sharing his ideas for an Arrow episode over the past few months, so it will be interesting to see if that comes before or after he (eventually?) has a hand in one of the DC TV crossovers.

Supergirl returns with the Smith-directed “Supergirl Lives” next Monday, Januar 23rd, on The CW @ 8/7c.
